SCLA Digs Deep for NSW Police Legacy

The Sydney City Liquor Accord (SCLA) has once again donated generously for a worthy cause, donating $20,000 to Police Legacy during their annual Blue Ribbon Ball, held at the International Convention Centre on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
The SCLA along with the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) NSW are long-term sponsors of the annual charity dinner which sees police and the community come together to raise important funds to support Police Legacy’s work. This year, the Accord not only matched its sponsorship with an education program pledge, they doubled it to $20,000 on the night.
SCLA Chairperson Steven Speed said when it came to worthy causes NSW Police Legacy was hard to beat. “NSW Police Force officers do a fantastic job in working pro-actively with licensed premises and our patrons – not only in the Sydney City accord but right across NSW. They make sure patrons have a safe and enjoyable night out, so when it comes to supporting NSW Police officers and their families in times of need, it was a no brainer for us to support Police Legacy”.
AHA NSW echoed Mr Speed’s opinion: “NSW Police do a tremendous job each and every day and AHA NSW is proud to be a silver sponsor of Police Legacy,” AHA NSW CEO John Whelan said. “Safety is a vital part of a vibrant night-time economy and hoteliers and police work hand-in-hand to keep venues and patrons safe.”
Sydney City Police Area Commander, Superintendent Martin Fileman APM praised the donation and the benefits the accord brings. “Sydney City PAC enjoys a positive relationship with the local liquor accord that has improved the safety of patrons going out in the city, Superintendent Fileman said. “This is a very generous donation that will greatly support Police Legacy initiatives.”
NSW Police Legacy was established in 1987 to support police families who have suffered the loss of a loved one. They now provide care and on-going support to the families of police officers who have suffered a loss The Annual Blue Ribbon Ball is their largest fundraising event and was established after the 2002 murder of Constable Glen McEnallay VA in the line of duty. More than 900 guests attended this year’s event.
The Sydney City Liquor Accord comprises licensed premises in the Sydney City Police Area Command and covers the area from The Rocks to Central Railway, King Street Wharf to Hyde Park and is the largest accord in NSW. The accord has previously supported other worthy causes including regional NSW during droughts and bushfires
as well as providing training for accord member venues in workplace sexual harassment and bullying. “As the largest liquor accord in NSW it’s important we step up when it counts”, said Mr Speed.
